Freytags Triangle

Introduction:
The story begins with the main character named Ransom who goes hiking through the English Midlands. He comes to a place that he thinks will have sleeping accomadations for him. The woman says that she wants him to go find her son for her. He ends up running into Devine and Weston. Divine is an old school mate of his and he dislikes him. The drug his drink and take him aboard a spaceship to Malacandra.

Initial Conflict:
When he hears Devine and Weston discussing what they will do with him once they get to Malacandra, he decides to escape when they arrive.

Reversal:
Once Ransom escaped, he meets a very smart hrossa (named Hyoi) who lets him live in his village for several months. Since his is a prof. of philology, he is able to learn a bit of their language. He also discovers that the reason for Divine's motivation is what they call "suns blood" which on earth is called gold.

Climax:
The hrossa like Ransom alot and ask him to join them in a hunt for a hnakra, which is a dangerous water predator. During this fight, Divine and Weston shoot Hyoi and kill him. He runs away from them and runs into a sorn. They are actually really peaceful and it takes him to Oyarsa. Oyarsa only wants to speak with him. Divine and Weston are brought in because they have killed 3 hyrossa.

Peripetia:
Oyarsa gets mad at Divine and Weston and says they must go back to earth. Ransom likes Malacandra but he really misses earth so he decides to go back.

Falling Action:
Soon after they return to earth the ship "unbodies". He believes that his trip really did happen and tries to stop Weston from trying anything else.

The 5 Conflicts

*Man vs. Nature
*Man vs. God
*Man vs. Man
*Man vs. Self
*Man vs. Society

~~These are the five types of conflict that we discussed in class. In my book, Out of the Silent Planet, almost all of them are presented. The first onewould be Man vs. Nature. The main character named Ransom is kidnapped and taken to the distant planet called Malacandra. After escaping his captors, Ransom is all alone to fend for himself on this strange new planet. He has to deal with the unusual water that surrounds the planet, the alongated shape of everything due to a different gravitational pull (i think) , and the odd color that tints every "tree" and what seems to be vegetation. The next one would be Man vs. Man. Ransom fights with his captors Divine and Weston. Man vs. Self. When Ransom runs away he is all alone in the "woods" of Malacandra. He becomes scared and lonely and begins to talk to himself. I cannot think of examples for the other two. There really is no example for society yet. If anyone can help, please respond!!! :) ~~

The end of the movie

I really enjoyed the end of the movie. It tied together more of the loose ends. This movie was chalk full of themes that we discussed in class today. The movie definetly took a different turn once we found out the Darth Vader was Lukes father. How crazy!!! It was so abnormal because its usually good vs. evil but in this case, as we discussed in class, evil gave birth to the good which means there is a possibility for the good (which is Luke) to become evil. The good characters have really become friends instead of just a group fighting to save the galaxy.

Star Wars

Ok, so I'll be honest. I dont really understand this blog assignment. But I will try my best. So basically this movie has the typical hollywood plot. You've got the bad guy which is Darth Vader and his minions and then you've got the good guys which would be Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. And then you've got the typical themes such as good vs. evil. You've got Luke and his crew are fighting to save the galaxy from Darth Vader. Man vs. nature would be a good theme to bring up because when Luke and the crew were on the Ice Planet of Hoth, Luke especially had to escape from the ice monster and then had to try to survive in the freezing temperatures. Another theme man vs. machine. Darth Vader, for example, is beginning to become more and more like a machine now that he had lived with the suit (life support) for so long. He would also be a good example of man vs. himself because he is slowly loosing his soul due to his 1/2 machine 1/2 human body. So even though he is fighting the galaxy he is also fighting himself. Thats about all I've got for ya'll today.

Faith and The Planet

The relationship between faith and Out of the Silent Planet was definetly mentioned. The main character Ransom gets kidnapped by these two gentlemen one of whom is a scientist. They want to use him for an experiment. He fights to get away from them but the drink knocks him out. The kidnap him and put him in this tiny room on the spaceship to Malacandra. When he wakes up he realizes that he unsuccessful and begins to loose faith that he will ever get away.

How would you feel????

Wow, I dont know how I would react if something like that happened. If scientists actually had proof that the supernova happened around 2,000 years ago which is when the baby Jesus was born, and they believe that the north star was actually the bright light of the planet being destroyed, I would be very confused. I believe I would still believe in Christianity but it would be very hard. I would probably feel the way the Jesuit did. I usually dont believe in science or theories such as the Big Bang Theroy but if that actually did happen, I would be very tempted to think otherwise.
